I'm now 22 weeks and can't remember being this hungry so early in other pregnancies (normally it was later in the 3rd trimester). I'm not eating huge meals - I get full pretty quickly, but then 20 minutes later I'm starving again and looking for another meal! I'm eating pretty healthy meals (trying to make sure they include wholegrains and protein).
Other than eating myself silly, what have you girls found helpful?

be sure you're staying hydrated and drinking lots of water...dehydration can manifest itself in many ways...also, if you're drinking liquids, you'll feel more full too. other than that, eat lots of complex foods so it takes your body longer to digest them.
~ eggs/turkey bacon/100% whole grain toast for breakfast
~ crackers w/peanut butter for snack
~ 'ants on a log' for snack
~ low sodium lunch meat, part skim cheese, lots of veggies on salad/wrap/sandwich
~ fruit for sweetness rather than quickly digesting white sugar things
~ you could ask Ruth about smoothies...she puts tons of things in them!
I was going to say some raw veggies, as Kate suggested. The crunching can make you feel less hungry and just take care of that "need to munch". Belly peppers are my favorite (though expensive) crunchy special snack... they just have such a unique taste and the crunch is awesome~
I keep sugar free gum around so I can pop a piece if I feel nibbly... that helps. Crunching ice helps too! I love eating crushed ice~ You could always splash a little juice in it for extra flavor, if need be. Then it REALLY feels like a treat.

Be careful on that sugar free gum! If it has aspartame in it - it definitely not good for you. I accidentally bought some sugar free gum (with that ingredient) a while back and it gave me major headaches. After a little research, I found it can cause headaches and even seizures! Scary stuff...but I know you gals are great about reading your labels. ;)

I have had those hungry all the time periods all through this pregnancy. I always think the baby must be really growing that week and then for awhile I am not as hungry then it comes back. :-D My favorite to grab was cheese, nuts and fruit.
Happy growing baby! :-D

I'm the same way. What I do is make a bigger meal and break it down. I'll eat a small portion of, salad, meat, vegi and starch. then when I'm hungry again I finish the other half. For snacks I'll eat a handful of grapes or some other kind of fruit.
the one thing I think is bad about sugar free is that it subsides your hunger pain for a short time and then increases you craving for something sweet. that doesn't keep me from eating it or drinking it though LOL
At the same time I use splenda.
Lean pockets with spinach, artichoke and chicken is really good as well. I try to find things that are high in protein because it takes longer for your body to break it down. If you eat things that are high in sugar it digest a lot quicker.
So think filler foods.

Thanks girls. That gives me heaps of ideas. Last night I ended up eating a chicken breast with cheese and avocado! Wouldn't have been such a problem except that it was 10pm!
I like the idea of eating half dinner at dinner time, and half later - I reckon that would work well for me.
I do definitely have to drink more water during the day. I drink about 2 litres during the day, but then at night I am extra thirsty and have 3 or 4 glasses before bed! Which ofcourse means I'm up all night going to the loo!
Anyway, thanks again. I have heaps of things to try now.
God bless!
