View Full Version : How about a separate forum for NFP/FAM questions not pertaining to TTC?

I've been thinking...I use NFP and I think that a fair number of other women here use FAM or NFP when not TTC, but rather to TTA.
What about making a separate forum for the discussion of that? I tend to frequent an NFP board to cover such topics but would love to have someplace here devoted to NFP/FAM discussion.

I think it's a good idea. Expecially because if you are ttc and struggling, it's hard to read someone else's post about how NOT to get pregnant. KWIM?

I do not know what all the abrev's mean but I think it would be a good idea if it's going to help people :-)

I'd be down for that...we are off good insurance coverage now with dh out of work and I'm looking into buying TCOYF. I need help! Our library doesn't have it...

If you're looking to use NFP to TTA, I would highly recommend taking a personalized class from an instructor. I actually contacted a teacher for a refresher class since the materials have changed, and it's been really helpful.
Here's a site where you can search for a local teacher:

Hi! For Zoe and K4JC:
TTC = trying to conceive
TTA = Trying to avoid (pregnancy)
NFP = natural family planning - in this method you watch your fertility signs and avoid/abstain during fertile times if TTA, or bd (baby dance) if you are TTC
FAM = Fertility awareness method - still monitoring fertility signs, but when you are fertile you use a barrier method of BC if TTA.
TCoYF - Taking Charge of Your Fertility - the book most people recommend to learn about how to monitor your cycle & fertility signs
If there are any other abbreviations that are confusing I will try to explain them (assuming I know what they mean!)
edit: I will most likely be TTA and nursing after this baby, so I will have lots of questions that might be better placed outside of the TTC forum, too. That reminds me, I have to renew my membership and sign up for the postnatal class. I keep forgetting about that...
ccli.org is great, btw, I am so glad I took the class Hannah suggested.
I totally agree, gals! Great idea!
