of a baby cutting their 1 year molars at 8 months?

I'm not sure, but I think Callum is working on his top two. It just seems so early for that. Nights are awful right now - he certainly is miserable enough for it to be molars. It's just hard to see back there so we won't know for sure until something pops through. He already has four teeth on top and two on the bottom. (I can't recall if in the "normal" order of tooth appearances if he should be getting any more before his molars.)

Jo got his other two on bottom. now he has 4 on top and 4 on bottom. I think it is a little early for molars to break through, but not too early to cause teething pains.
hope he gets back to his normal self soon!

Both my boys got their molars way early, my first even earlier than my 2nd They got all of their teeth early - I read about eruption patterns somewhere and some kids take up to 3 years to get all their teeth but mine both took 18 mos or less. It was nice to get it over with, but rough when they had multiple teeth coming in at once. Ambesol did not help much. If this baby teethes early I might get those amber teething beads some moms here have.

It might be weeks or even months before those molars break thru - if you get a little flashlight, can you see any white yet or is it still just pink gums back there?

Shaelyn has only her front teeth - 4 on top and 4 on bottom...I think she's working on back teeth/molars now. She's suddenly chewing on everything! She's going on 15 months...

Callum has had a recent increase in chewing and drooling. That's what has me thinking teeth. I'll have to get a flashlight and try to get a better look tomorrow. (That's a good idea BTW, I never thought of that! :) ) That said, tonight he has been up 4 times in the 3 hours he has been in bed. I gave him some meds after the second time he woke hoping it would help. The last time he woke he resettled himself. So we'll see. Last night the worst part of the night was between 11pm and 3am. Dh, bless his heart, was able to take that shift while I got some sleep. He's much more of a night owl than I am.

Dh and I have been trying to brainstorm other possible reasons for the excessive night wakings. Maybe he is having a growth spurt and is more hungry than usual? He eats a LOT during the day. And dh thinks it might be separation anxiety because when dh tries to put Callum down, even if he is practically asleep, he wakes and madly grabs at dh's shirt. *shrug* I don't know. That might explain why it's hard to put him *to* bed, but I don't think it explains why he doesn't *stay* asleep. In any case, we'll just keep trying something different until something works. Not much else to do! :) Something is up though, because this is hugely different than usual for him.

It could also be that he's about to reach a milestone. like walking or whatevers next. I remember Jo doing the same thing around the age of Callum and within the next couple of days he was crawling all over. And it could also be a growth spurt, these things can interfere with a childs sleep pattern.

does he have a teething necklace? Shaelyn has an amber one and has never really had pain while cutting teeth...

Esther, the growth spurt we've wondered about.

Kate, we don't have an amber necklace. I haven't been able to decide if I want to invest in one.

Still not sure what is going on.....he was up from about 11pm to 2am again last night. sigh. Poor kid. He was miserable and impossible to settle. I did look in his mouth with a flashlight, and his gums are a bit swollen in the back, so I think teething definitely is contributing to this. But Liam was up several times last night *miserable* complaining of a sore throat and dealing with congestion. We hadn't really noticed congestion/trouble breathing in Callum (although he has had a runny nose the last few days) but if he has the sore throat that Liam was complaining of that would explain a lot. *shrug* Some days I just wish babies could talk.........lol
