A few weeks ago M hit his head and nose on our garage door. Ever since then he has been constantly chewing on the neck of his t-shirt until it is soaking wet. I am not sure if the 2 are related?? my mum said sometimes kid chew on stuff when they are anxious? So I am not sure if the hitting his head and chewing on shirt are related? Also I noticed some discoloration on his front upper teeth after his accident. We have dentitst appt. today so I will bring it up!
Does anybody else have any ideas why he would be chewing on there?

Oh the mysteries of children! Don't know for sure but looking at it from what you've said maybe his teeth are sore from the bump to the head so he is chewing to relieve some of the pain?! Hope you get some answers sister!

is he actually chewing or sucking? If he's sucking, I'd say maybe for relief, but if its' chewing, it could be anxiety.
Gabe used to chew on his neckline like that until he got to school, cuz he was nervous about school. Finally just put him in the car without a shirt, he put it on in line to get out at school, LOL, but he outgrew it.

Owen, 2, and who I should have named Linus because he is almost never without his blanket, is now chewing on the corners of it...I think some kids just go through this, but do't hesitate to ask the dentist or the ped if you are concerned.
willie went through a chewing on shirt sleeves phase. we took his shirt off if he didn't respond to verbal requests.
if you see bruising, I'd get him checked. Give it a week or two and by then it should have nothing to do with comfort... KWIM?

bruising where Rach ? You know Kana I think he might be sucking? I am just not sure?
E used to chew everything too, but when we changed his diet he barely chews anymore. M's chewing started after his little accident! From what I can remember!
I asked about his teeth and the dentist did say the discoloration is probably related to him hitting his face a few weeks ago! But she didn't say anything about the chewing!
Thanks for all the input :)

Not sure what to think about the chewing on his shirt. I am leaning towards them not being related. Kids do silling things. Gracie is six and has started chewing on her nighgowns some and just general tugging at them...especially her spaghetti strap ones. It may just be that they are uncomfortable to her though. BUT do keep an eye out for the discoloration on his teeth, Jayne! When Gracie was very little she slipped, fell and hit her front two teeth hard on a table at McDonald's. It ended up doing root damage to her teeth and she has a darkened tooth now (an absess)...even after the dentist worked on it. But the good news is that will probably be the first tooth she loses... But you will definitely be able to tell before long if it is darkening more. Just a heads up! ;)

thanks for the heads up Becca! I think the chewing may just be habit but I am also thinking he has a had a runny nose and so wipes it on shirt too which could be related to him hitting his nose or allergies. I may go and have his nose checked out too?
