I just found out I have an appointment with the ob tomorrow morning to discuss my vbac. Never had one before? Is there anything I should know or ask him? [cheerful]

Are there specific things you want/don't want to happen during labor?? Like, I think protocol is to use continous fetal monitoring which can restrict your movement during labor. and it's unnecessary, they can use a handheld monitor and come to the same conclusions. Anyway, I would have a really good think about what you want the birth to be like and then tell him what you will allow to happen and what you won't. The less intervention you have, the better your chances are of a successful VBAC. Sorry, I love talking VBAC:mrgreen:

Feel free to pm me if you need/want to or if you have any questions regarding VBAC.

I am wondering if they will pressure me about the monitoring? My Dr thought they might have a remote system so that you can be free to move, but then can you go in the shower? She said they like you to be at the hospital from 4cm on. I think my other question would be if they want you to have an iv just in case?

Thanks Eva I am glad you love talking vbac

I think I have heard of monitors that you can use in water. Not sure if they are the continuous ones or not.

Totally don't know for sure what US hospital policy is regarding VBACs, but I do think they push for you to have the iv in just in case. You can totally refuse it, I did and it wasn't really needed. Honestly, they do all these things that make it easier for them, but it's not really gonna make a whole lot of difference if you don't have an IV in and there is an emergency.

Ya, the monitoring and the iv are my two biggest questions. And if he comes for my labour or if it is just my Dr. I really like her and have had her before she is very relaxed and lets you labour and push however you want and no pushing of interventions. So interested to talk to him and see!

Thanks :-D

Well that was easy. I hope I did not miss anything. He said he has no problem with me trying for a vbac and my scar is double stitched which I have been wondering about. That is good. He said really the big thing they do is make sure that an ob is ready and that the operating room is prepped just in case. After that they try to treat you like a normal labour and birth. He said they want you to be free to walk around and labour as you wish. He said they use the doppler for monitoring unless they have a worry and then they use the remote continuous monitor. Same thing with the iv they use a saline lock so that you are free to walk around, but again only if they are concerned. So that sounds good to me. I would prefer to be at home, but this really is a nice hospital. And I am kind of looking forward to the just me and baby time with no responsibilities. :-D

Thanks Eva [cheerful]

Wow, praise God you got such a wonderful OB! It sounds like a great place to give birth in. I'm excited for you....LOL! Praying you have such a wonderful experience and birth!

Oh and I know what you mean about looking forward to getting just you and baby time without responsibilities. That was one of the reasons why I chose the birth center this time around rather than home. It's funny cuz the other day the kids were playing up and I said to dh "Is it bad that I'm really looking forward to getting a couple of days on my own in the birthing center"....LOL. It'll be like staying at a hotel, get my meals made for me, my bed changed for me, all I have to do is cuddle my precious baby and greet visitors when they come. Sounds mighty fine to me!
