Okay, so I've got Benjamin sound asleep for the moment in my mei tai, giving me a couple of minutes to post about his birth.
Long story short, it was a labor I'd just as soon forget. I'm not giving details because I'd rather not rehash them. :( L-O-O-N-G and painful. My midwife said I had an "ornery cervix." So after planning an unmedicated homebirth, I ended up going to the hospital. By that point, I was so miserable I didn't even care that I was having a baby. All I wanted was relief from the pain that had been going on and getting progressively worse for days.
The awesome thing was, as soon as Benjamin came out I was overcome with such joy that I forgot about the misery I'd been in. Until the epidural wore off, that is. The most outstanding memory was the look on DH's face as Ben's head came out. I can only describe it as an awestruck smile. I wish someone had taken a picture.
So our son was born at 5:32 on Monday, November 27, weighing 6 pounds, 9 ounces, and 18-1/2 inches long. He's very healthy, despite his size.
The hospital staff was great. One of the nurses said at one point after returning him to us from a checkup, "He's such a good baby. He needs to teach a class."
I'll post a picture once I get one downloaded, and figure out how to paste it onto this site. Which might take me a while.
Thanks for all the replies to Jennifer's post a couple days ago. :)
