Okay, so I've got Benjamin sound asleep for the moment in my mei tai, giving me a couple of minutes to post about his birth.

Long story short, it was a labor I'd just as soon forget. I'm not giving details because I'd rather not rehash them. :( L-O-O-N-G and painful. My midwife said I had an "ornery cervix." So after planning an unmedicated homebirth, I ended up going to the hospital. By that point, I was so miserable I didn't even care that I was having a baby. All I wanted was relief from the pain that had been going on and getting progressively worse for days.

The awesome thing was, as soon as Benjamin came out I was overcome with such joy that I forgot about the misery I'd been in. Until the epidural wore off, that is. The most outstanding memory was the look on DH's face as Ben's head came out. I can only describe it as an awestruck smile. I wish someone had taken a picture.

So our son was born at 5:32 on Monday, November 27, weighing 6 pounds, 9 ounces, and 18-1/2 inches long. He's very healthy, despite his size.

The hospital staff was great. One of the nurses said at one point after returning him to us from a checkup, "He's such a good baby. He needs to teach a class."

I'll post a picture once I get one downloaded, and figure out how to paste it onto this site. Which might take me a while.

Thanks for all the replies to Jennifer's post a couple days ago. :)

I know what you mean about not wanting to rehash it.

Glad it went well for you. Well, as well as it did.

Nothing like getting to hold them for the first time to make you forget it all. Or at least a tad bit hazy.

Big hugs.

Congratulations!!! Sorry it was so rough for you!! I'm glad all ended well and I love the name!

My husband says he's the one that experiences the real labor pains in the financial office.

Congratulations! What a blessing!! I am excited to see his pics!
Were you surprised by his weight? Being small may have been one of the reason's he was a hard delivery....my midwife said that bigger babies help themselves down the birth canal because they have more muscle...who knows though, the Lord knew what birth you needed, and I am so thankful you were able to do what was best for you and your fam!! Praise the Lord for his blessings!!

I forgot to mention that his head was slightly askew in relation to the cervix, which seems to be the going theory for my painful labor (and on and off discomfort during my last weeks of pregnancy) and trying birth. My mw's comment was that one can never know for sure.

6 pounds, 9 ounces, and 18-1/2 inches long

That's exactly what I was when I was born. Interesting.

So glad your little one is finally here.
