Boycotting target.. yet another reason to avoid their stores. (I hardly ever shop there but after reading this I had one of those "that's it!" moments. I'm not planning to ever go there again.)

Wasn't it last Christmas that Target refused to let the Salvation Army ring their bells in front of their stores?

Dick Forrey of the Vietnam Veterans Association wrote.

'Recently we asked the local TARGET store to be a proud

sponsor of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall during our

spring recognition event.

We received the following reply

from the local TARGET management:

' Veterans do not meet our

area of giving. We only donate to the arts, social action

groups, gay & lesbian causes, and education.'

So I'm thinking, if the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and

veterans in general, do not meet their donation criteria,

then something is really wrong at this TARGET store. We were

not asking for thousands of dollars, not even hundreds, just

a small sponsorship for a memorial remembrance.

As a follow-up, I E-mailed the TARGET U.S. Corporate

Headquarters and their response was the same .

That's their

national policy.

Then I looked into the company further..

They will not allow

the Marines to collect for 'Toys for Tots' at any of their

stores. And during the recent Iraq deployment, they would

not allow families of employees who were called up for

active duty to continue their insurance coverage while

they were on military service. Then as I dig further,

TARGET

is a French-owned corporation .

Now, I'm thinking again.. If TARGET cannot support American

Veterans, then why should my family and I support their

stores by spending our hard earned American dollars!

And,

have their profits sent to France .

Without the American

Vets, where would

France be today?

'They, most likely would be speaking German and trading in Deutsch Marks'

Sincerely,

Dick Forrey

don't get mad at me or throw things at me...but as a church employee, we do have to choose which organization to sponsor or to take up a special offering for. That doesn't mean that we don't agree with other orgs, we just can't put our support behind everything. I'm not saying that Target is taking the stance I just mentioned...but yeah. They can't support everything.

Unless its to do with educating children on the joys of homosexuality!

gay & lesbian causes, and education.'

Well Kate I do see what you're saying.. but letting the salvation army come, or letting the marines collect toys for tots wouldn't cost them anything.

Hmmm....the problem is that I can't boycott everything or I would have nowhere to shop. :)

I'm sure that Wal-Mart has equal or greater disturbing things about it. (My husband read a book called the Wal-Mart effect) And I think that Meijer has problems with it too.

Actually according to everything I've read, Meijer does not support homosexuals, and they seem like a really good store. That's where we've been shopping for a while.

There is not much you can do except stop shopping and grow your own garden. Here's the Gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender chamber of commerce's partners. Mostly every major corporation in america!!

I DO try to give my business to christian and/or moral businesses, when I can, but othertimes I just live in the world, while not being of it. It won't be long before Jesus gets back anyway. Just have to survive until then. Or die, and go to heaven. LOL. I don't find shopping at certain places as important as ministering to people on a personal level anyway...

That said I rarely shop at target... lol... I grew up in a wal-mart town.
