Since I will be going back to work after the baby is born, I will have to pump milk for my dh to use with baby. For those of you that have pumped, can you tell me which pump you had and how it worked for you? I will need to get one that can be used at least 2 times a day.

I've heard so many horror stories on bad pumps, I was just curious. I know the hospital ones are probably the best, but way out of our price range.

Thank you so much for your help!

Way back when, I used the Medela pump-n-style and it worked really well for me. My work gave me access to a windowless small break room with a sink. But I also could use it in the car, if needed.

Thanks. We feel it is the best option for our baby's health and wellbeing. My dh has wanted me to bf since before we were ttc. It's very important to him. I, of course, agree, but it's nice that he's so supportive of bf also.

One of the other women here at work (or she used to work here) bf her baby for a year and our work was very accomodating to her. So, I'm very blessed to have a place that encourages bf. There is an office that locks and we can use our morning and afternoon breaks to bf. The breaks are normally supposed to be 10 minutes, but they're fine with them going over for this. I'm glad that this other lady bf because none of the other moms did. So, I was able to see how our company would be.

I second that! Medela pump-n-style is the best! It gets it done fast, which i like. :D I used the manual avent pump but don't recommend it at all when you gotta do a lot of pumping.

Ruth,

Yes there are a couple LLL groups that meet in the area. They only meet during the day unfortunately. But next year I'm going to use a little of my vacation time to take a little longer lunch hour on the meeting days to go to a group near my work. I'm out of vacation time for this year, but next year will be fine.

When I looked into them, I thought they looked like they would be very helpful.

I guess I will third the Medela Pump in style. That is what I have been using for 7 months now, as my little guy never could get latched on correctly!

Sometimes pharmacies have breast pump rental programs. they rent out the hospital-grade ones that are multiple-user... so you rent the basic part of the machine, but buy your own collection kit (which is the part that touches your breasts and the milk). If you can't afford one yourself you might check out rental pricing in your area. Much cheaper than investing in a thousand dollar machine.

I only have to pump occasionally. I am using the harmony manual breast pump by medela... it's okay. I have had issues with needing a different sized breast shield - if you have very large nipples or very small ones you have to buy a different shield than the standard size or you won't get much milk... so if your breasts aren't "standard" make sure you buy a pump where you can order different size shields...

I also vote for Medala pump n style.
It worked so well that I was able to exclusively pump with it for 8 weeks before my ds latched on.
I also used it at work, I pumped in my bosses office.

I vouch for Medela too...also good tip about La Leche...sometimes they have used ones that have been sterilized for a lesser amount if you're willing to go that route...also the hospitals around us rent them out to BF mom's too.....Don't know the pricing on that though since I never checked into it....Good luck!
