View Full Version : Trying to figure my edd. :)
Ashlee 06-03-2009, 11:53 AM Yeah.. the day of my last period was the 19th of April. I AM breastfeeding though and that has extended my cycles to as long as 42 days in the past. Never 45 days though! I tested 5 days ago cd40 and got a neg. I am going to test again sometime this evening and if its a neg I'll test the first morning pee. There is no telling when or *if* I o'd though so I have no idea if a pos is even possible. I have NO signs of af though.. and I felt a bit nauseous last night. I guess we will see. I'm ok with either result.. just so ya'll know. I wont be dissapointed either way.
Woo hoo!!! ;) I'm going to be watching you!!!!
PianoMama 06-03-2009, 12:42 PM How exciting!!
ChamomileFriend 06-03-2009, 05:12 PM I am going to keep an eye on this thread! Can't wait to hear how it turns out. I did have a few looooong cycles (between 40-60 days) last year and sometimes it was confusing.

LCLake 06-03-2009, 06:20 PM Woo hoo!!! All of the sudden this forum is ALIVE again!! Can't wait to hear the news!! Whatever that may be. :) :) Praying for ya!
Ashlee 06-04-2009, 12:00 AM Its 10:58pm and I'm waiting for dh to get home with the pregnancy tests! Seems kind of silly to test so late tonight when I know the morning results are most accurate and its not that far away. If I can sleep I'll wait til morning but I can see myself tossing and turning if I don't test tonight, hehe.
mom2pbj 06-04-2009, 09:34 AM any news????
Ashlee 06-04-2009, 09:43 AM I tested late last night and got a BFN! I'm really surprised actually.. I thought for sure I was pg. I don't know where af is. I guess my cycles are just all wacky thanks to breastfeeding.:???:
PianoMama 06-04-2009, 11:12 AM aw. I'm sorry Ashlee...((hugs))
Ashlee, have you been temping or anything? That's how I learned I was actually ovulating, when Li was still BFing. I was wondering if you knew how many DPO you are? Temping has been invaluable for me, personally~ I hope you can get some confirmation, one way or another. With AF still MIA I would say, don't rule pg out completely yet~ What kind of test did you use? Some are more sensitive than others, too~ I'm still watchin ya! ;)
ETA: I just re-read your original post! Sorry! ::snort:: Do you think you might start charting?
Ashlee 06-04-2009, 02:01 PM I just bought the tcoyf book but haven't started reading it yet. I do plan on charting but honestly I kinda thought I was pg so thought whats the point? LOL I am going to start soon though.. just thought I'd wait for af to arrive.

Yeah, I don't blame you. I went through a similar period when Li was about seven months old. I had a super long cycle and I thought "hhhmm". But never got a bfp... so I just waited for AF to start, then I started charting. I know you'll enjoy charting~ :)
Ashlee 06-05-2009, 04:45 PM I'm so going hmmm right now! This morning when I wiped I had a bit of spotting but different then anything I've had before.. it was pink and more mucousy.. I have never spotted like this before a period. I have never had implantation bleeding either though so I'm just like hmm. If it was af then you'd think she would of kicked in to a full fledged period by now, wouldn't you? I know my bodies all crazy cause of bf but this is just weird! I wish I had a for sure here.. either a bfp or af, yk? I hate waiting it out! LOL Anyway.. does anyone know approximately how long after bd you would typically see implantation bleeding? Oh, and I could have o'd pretty much anytime during the last 45 days right? I think I read that implantion bleeding shows up about a week after ovulation.. but I was wondering if its possible I ovulated that late after my last period.. that would be like cd 38ish.
Oooooo!!! Innnnteresting!! If it *is* implantation spotting.... then the theory goes that in about two or three days you should be able to pick something up on a sensitive test, like First Response Early results. I'm gonna be watching you! FYI: I'm just NOW having implantation spotting and I ovulated 13 Days AGO! :) My implantation didn't take place (I'm pretty certain) until 10 dpo!
Ashlee 06-06-2009, 05:13 PM Wow Jen.. thats interesting! I didn't think implantation bleeding happened so far from ovulation!
I still have no clue what my body is doing. :???: TMI warning: I had that bit of pink mucousy stuff yesterday morning then nothing all day.. then I had some brown spotting late lastnight.. not a lot.. just enough to kinda wet my panties.. then a bit of blood streaked cervical fluid through out the day today.. just when I wipe. Weird stuff I tell ya! I suppose I will wait another day and if af doesn't start.. I mean reallly start, then I'll send dh for more tests. I will keep ya posted!
Blessed 2 B Zoe 06-06-2009, 06:35 PM Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Ashlee 06-07-2009, 11:09 AM Thank you ladies. I really doubt this is implantation bleeding. This is the 3rd day of spotting. I will go ahead and take a test tomorrow morning if the spotting stops and doesnt turn into af just to relieve my curiousity but I'm not holding my breath. I'm just really confused right now. I've read the first 6 chapters of TCOYF and can't wait to start charting! I just wish my body woud give me some clear signs, lol.
Ashlee 02-04-2010, 11:19 AM Bumping this up..
I think this WAS implantation bleeding! That *would* put me about two weeks farther along wouldn't it? Does anybody know how to calculate your due date from implantation bleeding time?
ETA~ I'm assuming you'd count 40 weeks from implantation since that would be conception time?? That would put me at 34.. almost 35 weeks!! Due date being March 12th instead of 29th. :D
I have no clue Ashlee, but I found this~ http://www.justmommies.com/duedate.shtml
Could you use the implantation spotting as a "conception date"? hhhmmm....
Ashlee 02-04-2010, 12:05 PM I have no clue Ashlee, but I found this~ http://www.justmommies.com/duedate.shtml

Ok.. that's weird. Using that calculator and June 5th as my conception date (first day I saw spotting) it gives me Feb. 26th as a due date and says I'd be 37 weeks already!? That doesn't make sense to me. The math doesn't add up.. it should be 40 weeks from conception, right? I'm getting March 12th.. I don't get it.
Ashlee 02-04-2010, 12:10 PM Ok I found this;
A normal pregnancy lasts 280 days from your LMP which is about 266 days from conception to birth. The first two weeks of your pregnancy includes the time of your period, ovulation and fertilization. Conception occurs approximately 14 - 16 days after the first day of your period.
I am so clueless.. I guess it would be 38 weeks from conception.[whatwacko]
How do I not know these things??
Ashlee 02-04-2010, 12:47 PM Sorry.. trying to wrap my head around this now (mommy/pregnancy brain is NOT helping!). But if typically mw's and doc's calculate your pg to be 40 weeks long from the first day of your last period.. when your say 32 weeks, you'd actually only be 30, right? So when they do the fundal height measurement it typically should actually be 2cm ahead of where you are. Am I right? So like if I'm measuring 34.. the baby is actually probably only 32 gestational? But then that would still mean I only have approx. 6 weeks left... if the baby usually comes around 38 weeks gestational, right? Haha, sorry for being so duh about this. I'm just trying to figure out the most plausable thing here. I know it doesn't *really* matter.. baby will coe when baby is ready! Period. I'm a firm believer of that.. except if baby comes "early" I don't want anyone panicing thinking I'm having a premie when I'm not, yk? That could effect my plans for a homebirth.. that thought scares me!

That's what I would think but I really don't know. OK had to go look it up and measuring this way is starting to become obsolete and inaccurate because there are several factors that could make you measure off. Things like a full bladder will make you measure larger than what you really are. Apparently they are now leaning toward ultrasound as being more accurate, even though it's still not 100%.
Here's the link where I found the info. http://www.gynob.com/fh.htm
PianoMama 02-04-2010, 04:29 PM I believe 38 weeks from conception is correct.
Ashlee, did you have an ultrasound done early on at all? That's usually when measurement is the *most* reliable as far as estimating due date and such. Wyatt was bang on at my 11 week ultrasound for the due date of Feb 9th... but fundal height was always two weeks ahead... a couple times it was almost three weeks. I believe measuring bigger is pretty normal for mom's of subsequent children. I never have before... and am measuring big for number six. I dunno. I'm clueless about all this. I know you'd hate to switch around due dates and have an "early" baby at home. Hhhhhmmm...
melloyellochelle 02-04-2010, 08:12 PM Here are my thoughts and what I can remember from the whole EDD thing...
I agree that I heard the measuring is becoming obsolete and the main reason to do it now is to check for growth from week to week, etc. Not for EDD. As for measuring and the weeks, I think they just stuck to 32 weeks = 32 cm even though, you are right, you would technically be 30 weeks gestational. They don't usually play around with those 2 weeks between period and ovulation. However, they may need to in your case! (In TCOYF she gets pretty into the whole "We're not all the same! We don't all have standard 28 day cycles!" And I liked that a lot since it made me feel 'odd' to have an average 35 day cycle.)
However, most docs rely on the ol' 28 day cycle method to get the EDD. From reading the early posts here, you certainly didn't have a 28 day cycle! So I'd go by when you ovulated. If that bumps your EDD up then I'd say prepare people for that. Let people know that it very well could be earlier than thought originally.
How fun though! Either way, you are NOT too far away at all! Woo hoo!!! :D
Ashlee 02-04-2010, 09:24 PM Thanks ladies![loveyou]
I know the fundal height measurement isn't reliable in most cases. The only reason *I* consider it is because out of MY 4 pregnancies it has actually lined up.
Jen, nope, no ultrasound at all. I've only ever had ultrasounds with my first.. before I knew I wanted to go the homebirth route.
Chelle, yeah I have had some realllllly long cycles because of breatfeeding and af has been totally unpredictable pp so it makes it really difficult to figure my edd.
Thankfully my mw knows all this so I don't think she'll panic if I go into labor a few weeks earlier then expected.
Thanks again for the help ladies.
