I really want to do cloth with this new baby and I haven't got a scooby what I'm doing. So what do you prefer to use with a newborn? And any other hints or tips you can give me would be much appreciated:mrgreen:

View Full Version : Your favorite newborn cloth diapers Eva 06-02-2009, 05:45 PM I really want to do cloth with this new baby and I haven't got a scooby what I'm doing. I actually like the LLs better, but customer service wasn't quite as grand. Not horrible, but not as good as the MTs gal. But, doesn't matter as neither are still in business. Poochies and Kissaluvs are my next recs. Kissaluvs I am pretty sure you can still find, though I've not actually used those. LOL Those are the ones I would buy next time I were to do such a purchase. Love love my Poochies though..not sure if they are still around. Sorry, I'm no help *snort* 4HisGlory 06-02-2009, 09:04 PM I like fuzzy bunz for first starting out and for newborns. Although if I was going to redo my newborn stash I would probably opt for pocket change. Same thing as a fuzzy bunz but both ends of the pocket are open so you don't have to dump out your insert, it will just come out in the wash on its own[claploud] I really like prefolds with a wool cover for young infants because you can get a really good fit on them with practice and the wool cover, although not "water proof" but absorbant and works just as well as plastic so long you don't let them SOAK their diaper, they let their bums breath better and I have virtually no diaper rashes like I do with the plastic/PLU covers. danou 06-02-2009, 09:20 PM I'll be watching with interest... I haven't cd'ed a newborn yet. I know our Bum Genius OS will likely not fit for awhile as they don't do well until at least 9-10lbs. I'm planning on making a bunch on nb fitteds from recycled receiving blankets. Just because we dont' have $$$ to spend on nb size stuff. His butterfly 06-02-2009, 11:20 PM I have never tried this with a NB but my Bumgenious Pocket diapers are a one size fits all. They snap down to XS for NB and go up to Lg for tots. My sis loves pre-folds for her NBs since you can fold them down to fit. Hope you find what you are looking for. JoyLynn 06-03-2009, 01:52 AM Haven't got a scooby?!? LOL!! [rotfl] Oh, you are so cute, Eva!! [rofl] Okay, so my answer.... With all four of mine, cloth diapers all the way.... DIAPER SERVICE!! LOL!! [rotfl] Sorry for no practical advice. My parents paid for two years of diaper service for each or our kids as a gift for the 'new baby'. [girlsmiley] Joy [welcomewave] melloyellochelle 06-03-2009, 01:36 PM I'm a FTM so not much help. But the advice I have been given and what I am going to try is this: prefolds with a cover while they are nb, then move up to a OS pocket dipe. I registered for a few different brands and I hope to try them out. Then I can see what works best for our little girl AND our little budget! :) kanaclark 06-03-2009, 02:30 PM with my boys as NBs, I prefered prefolds and covers. as they got bigger, I loved my kushies aios. they're not as expensive as other aios, but they're great. JRBL 06-23-2009, 07:14 PM Eva... hun... I just love you. That whole scooby thing had me cracking up! ::snort:: I was actually going to post about this. I've wanted to cloth diaper since the twins (06) and all these diapers all look alike and I just get lost looking at them all. It's like a whole other language and I don't speaka! ::snort:: I would love to know what you guys do NOT like about certain diapers... to those of us who have NOT cloth diapered but want to. What are some things that you know *now* that you WISH you knew back when you started??? Thanks gals!! 4HisGlory 06-23-2009, 09:20 PM here are the things I have learned... I really like having a variety of diapers. I buy one, see if I like it, if I do, I might buy more, if I don't I sell it. I know a lot of people like Kushies and they are easy to find, but I don't like AIO (all in ones-where it has the pads and waterproofing all sewn together) don't ask me why I don't like AIO, I just don't. I HATE velcro. if you don't put the tabs down you get this huge line of diapers that come out of the dryer, plus velcro get hair and strings all in it which makes it not stick well after a while. When you buy used make SURE you check the elastic in the legs, otherwise you will go home and realize you just wasted money. I hate PLU (the plastic pant type cover) unless it is on a pocket diaper. Otherwise my babies get rashes really easy. I use wool covers which breath better then PLU. ~Tara~ 06-24-2009, 10:17 AM I found that I don't like flannel in my diapers. As an outer layer is ok, but not for the absorbent layer. I like sherpa terry and hemp. They are super soft, absorbent and durable. That said, I also like whatever blend MotherEase has. It has worked well for us. I like NOT having to buy 5 sizes. I will buy newborn because of the unprecidented fit. Then I just want to buy one more size. I don't have the money (nor time) to buy a diaper, see if I like it, then buy more if I do, or sell if I don't. I just don't get into that game. I want to get ONE thing that is going to work for me and be DONE. Thus...MotherEase one size (though I REALLY like their Sandys too, they come in a couple of sizes) I like snap covers. Specifically, MotherEase AirFlows. I do have some Bummis Super Industrial Whisper Wraps for my chinese prefolds, which I like, but I only use them for my prefolds. Prefolds are ok, but I really like fitteds. I have a problem with the prefolds just not quite fitting right. They often slip and sag down around the belly on my kids. I use them here and there, moreso as they get older (1yr+), but I like fitteds. I don't like AIOs or pocket diapers. The PUL is going to get too much exposure to urine and thereby breaking it down, thusly shortening the life of your diaper. (yes yes I know someone is going to come along and say they have had x diaper for x long with no problems...ok, whatever, good for you, but I ain't buyin' it..had it, hated it) And I know I have said this before but I just do NOT for the life of me understand the draw of a pocket diaper ??? WHY do you want the cover and inner layer together? So that you can then shove an insert (or 3) inside which you then have to remove when soiled ?? And again, the urine/pul issue ?? That does NOT make sense to me. Diaper with separate cover. Diaper gets soiled, toss in pail. Cover can be used again. You can rotate through 2 or 3 covers a day...and the same ones the next day...and even the next day so long as they aren't soiled. But I generally get 3 days use out of covers that way. Compared to ONE aio or ONE pocket ?? Hmm what else do I like/not like, wish I had known ? That's all I got at the moment...and baby calls from the other room.............. :) melloyellochelle 07-01-2009, 04:07 PM I found that I don't like flannel in my diapers.
