This Friday is my appt with the OB to fight for where I give birth. I have done so much research, have joined a UK vbac group where there are lots of ladies who are very encouraging, have prayed prayed prayed and am ready for Friday. I technically don't have to see the OB, I can refuse, and I'm still debating whether I should go or not. But i feel at total peace that what I'm doing is right and that God is with me and this birth will be wonderful. So I'm going in to the appt on Friday and am going to very kindly tell the OB of all the research I've done, and that I refuse to go to the hospital and that I will either give birth at the birthing center or at home. DH is very supportive and encouraging about all this although he can't make it to the appt with me, so I have to face it on my own, but that's ok. I have been trying to talk him into having a homebirth but he's still not too sure, but I'm working on it. I know if I really wanted it, dh would agree and be supportive. I just have to decide where I really want to be and where I feel most comfortable. Anyway, please pray that I get everything across to the OB in a nice and gentle but firm manner, and that she doesn't try to emotional scaremonger me. I'm prepared for that though, but it still doesn't make it nice. I have actually been given the email of the head of midwives in our area who is very supportive of women getting the birth they want, where they want, even if they are considered high risk. She has helped so many women have homebirths who otherwise wouldn't have if she didn't help them. So I'm going to email her today and see what kind of insight she can give me and if I can get any help from her. Anyway, thanks for all your prayers. It really does mean so much to me, this birth means so much to me. [loveyou]

Praying for you Eva! And coming from a gal who's had two homebirths, I would say that homebirths (freestanding birth center births as well) are definitely worth fighting for!

Praying that your OB is sympathetic to your desires not to give birth in a hospital.

I guess the system over there is different to here. Over here we generally have a midwife and don't see an OB at all. Most of the midwifes are very keen for the woman to have a natural home birth or go to a birthing centre rather than to give birth at the hospital. My experience is that they will avoid a hospital birth if they can convince the mother. I planned to give birth at a birthing centre with my first - but ended up at the hospital due to some suspicous blood results (turned out to be nothing serious). I planned to go to the hospital with my second due to the fact that my first was such a rough birthing experience. However, I ended up with a very fast delivery at home. I was really pleased with that. It was so nice to stay in my own home and was a really lovely way to give birth. My son slept peacefully in the next room while Grandma stood by to look after him in case he woke (which he didn't). I was so pleased that this meant that I didn't have to be away from ds at all and I think this may have helped him to bond with his sister.

All of my care is with a MW, I only have to see the OB to fight to give birth at the birthing center (only bcuz I had a c/s with Abby). I can refuse the appt though. The MW's over here are very keen to have you give birth either at home or at the birthing center, but if you have had a section then they have protocol that they have to follow, which is to send you to hospital. Thus the reason for me having to fight it out with the OB. But this is my body, my baby, and my birth and I have every right to the birth I so choose, so really they have no choice....lol. I *will* have the birth I want. End of story to them...lol.
