Wrap Q?

I know there is a learning curve and it gets easier, but looking at how you put babies on your back with a wrap looks plain tricky. I can see figuring it out and using it at home, but is this practical in the middle of the grocery store or at the park?

Thanks! :-D

I haven't tried putting dd on my back with my new wrap yet...I've mastered 2 front holds, but not the back yet. I'd like to try soon...if/when I do, I'll let you know! I'll probably try with dh around first...the other thing would be to do it sitting on a chair/bench/couch.

I have carried her on my back in a Mai Tei. No probs...

I haven't mastered back wrapping, but then again I haven't really tried. But I know tons of women who back wrap and with newborns as well, and the more you practice the better you get at it, and once you get the hang of back wrapping you could whip your baby on your back in the middle of a grocery store in like a minute. When I first did a back carry in a MT it took me a few minutes to figure it out, but now I can have him up there in a matter of seconds. You really do become a pro at it, but it takes practice in the beginning. I would love to be able to back wrap a newborn and have asked my friend to give me a lesson on it as she is a pro at back wrapping. Sorry, kind of going off on a tangent there....lol. Don't get me started on babywearing or I don't shut up...lol!

Oh and I forgot to add that there are lots of different back carries and some carries are quicker than others. Like a ruck for example, that one you could do easily in a park or other place like that. A BWCC (back wrap cross carry) might take you a bit more time, but there are quicker carries than others.

I can whip Warrior up in a ruck rather quickly now. I've been using that a little more frequently lately. I just stand him up, spread the wrap out across his back, covering from his armpits to behind his knees, grab the 2 ends in one hand and hoist him around with both hands. Then I'm leaning over and separate the 2 ends and continue wrapping them around..pulling down over each shoulder, over his legs, cross under his bottom, then under his legs to tie around my front.

It *does* take practice, but it's not that difficult. A few practices with an older child. I believe I could rather easily back carry a newborn on my own now, having practiced with Warrior as I have.

I whipped him up there this weekend in the middle of Bass Pro Shops and again today at the bowling alley. Easy breezy! :D

When you guys mentioned the rucksack hold, I thought you meant this at first:

But then I realized you meant this:

I think I would need a lot of practice with a doll with the rucksack (and a new wrap), but I think I could handle the Kanga wrap. Several of the women in the neighborhood where I teach wear their babies in a similar carry.

I need to try that Tibetan variation sometime. Maybe I could get things just that *touch* tighter that I need around my shoulders.

And WTG Plaid! I anxiously await pics too :D

Knowledgeable and experienced in your field...that warrants it...so, you're covered. Some how pg brain cell diminishing skips those parts...I'm not sure how that works. hmm So, you may still forget your name or how to tie your shoes or where you left your keys..but you'll still remember how to tie a kid on you in any carrier on the market. :p

when I first started wrapping I started with one front hold, then added a few more. When I felt comfortable with the front then I went onto the back, first practiced with a teddy bear, then with ds over the bed, and then without the bed. When I felt comfortable in the house I did my first one in the grocery parking lot with my dh as a spotter (mistake because dh wanted to pull and tug and he didn't know what he was doing) I have never dropped my son. The one thing with wrapping that I have found is there sometimes comes a time when they begin to walk that they no longer want to be wrapped :( DS refuses to be wrapped but he still loves the ergo. I can't wait till this baby is born so I can break out all my beautiful wraps again

I wondered about the walking/not liking wraps thing...it must be diff for each kid. I used a RS for dd and a MT. Then was clued into the wraps and purchased one last month (or was it this month?) after she turned 1 and is fully walking. We are still using it! She loves being up near my face, touching my hair and talking to me. She is such a skin baby and just strokes any skin she can get her hands on! ha!
