Ok, I have never used a sling or carrier or anything like that. I am looking at getting one this time around. I like the ring slings but they look like the baby would fall out. What do you guys recommend that is safe and easy to use and reasonably priced? Thanks ladies :)

I'd recommend a wrap- like a moby or knock off- heavy stretchy jersey fabric... They have the convenience of a sling, but the equal weight distribution of a carrier. Plus baby is close to your baby and very secure- you are truly two hands free. Baby can be facing you or out.

A second a Moby or Kari Me! They are great starter wraps and they are great for newborns. I used one with Micah and we both loved it.

I third the wrap.
I don't like ring slings. Sure, they're easy and have that 'pop-ability' but I don't like the weight distribution. Wraps and MTs will distribute the weight evenly which is MUCH better for your back. You won't *feel* the kid on you, you can carry them for longer periods of time without the damage to your alignment. Even as the child gets older/heavier.

I have a Moby wrap and I used it with both my boys when they were infants. I always used it the way it is shown in the pic here:

There are other ways to fold it, but I was most comfortable with that one.

i loved my moby and could carry my son much longer in that then the sling. The sling holds the baby securly and there is no chance in LO falling out as long as you have them hammocked in there. THe moby is also very secure. I have never had issues with a baby comming lose. btw my sling cost me around $35 and I think my moby was around $30.

Thanks so much for your wonderful input!! I think I am going to be getting one of the Moby Wraps, looks the easiest to me :) I found them pretty reasonable on EBay but am going to check the consignment shops around here first. Thanks :)

I forgot to mention, that the only con I had with the Moby wrap is that sometimes you get warm with you and the baby all wrapped together. I don't know if they have newer ones made in lighter fabrics. If you have a/c it should be fine. I hope you find a good deal on one! I know I will be using mine again with baby # 3, it has held up really well.

I just got a Baby Bali Breeze which is a light weave mesh type of fabric. It's a wrap like a Moby, but not stretchy...supposed to be used for summer/warm weather.
Also, I loved my ring slings. SO easy to use. especially when the baby is tiny...very convenient and easy to make. But, the only baby I've used a RS with is/was tiny. Shaelyn is 13 months now and still under 20#...

I just wanted to say thanks... great question and great answers!
I'm thinking about getting a Moby too (or something like it). I think I have one on our registry. But will definitely purchase one if we don't get one.
