Well, our sweet little girl is here! Yay! She arrived Wednesday, May 14 at 8:19 p.m. She weighed in at 8 pounds 12.7 ounces and 21 inches long. Good sized! Her birth was definately not what I was expecting. At my 38 week appointment I was measuring 41 1/2 weeks so the midwife sent me for an ultrasound. Ultrasound showed that baby was fine, however the amniotic fluid came back as low. So at my 39 week appointment (Tuesday) they did a non-stress test on the baby. She can back as non-reactive, the middle score. She wasn't stressed but wasn't showing the variations that they wanted. So they sent me for another ultrasound to do a bio-physical profile of her. That came back great, and the amniotic fluid level wasn't low. However, they wanted to do another non- stress test on Thursday (the 14th). She also was non-reactive on that one, so they gave me my options. Either I could go for another ultrasound, then NST, then ? or they could break my water and I could have her. I was contracting, but not regularly or strongly, but I was dilated to 4-5 cm. and about 70% effaced. So I had a decision to make. I prayed hard about it and asked the Lord that if it was His will to have the baby yesterday that he would work out everything. I was able to get right through to the pediatrician, dh was home from work and could come right away, my sister was able to leave work right away to watch the kids because my mom was there for her birth, and all 4 midwives' opinion was the same. So I told the midwife, Let's have her. She said "Great, be at the hospital within an hour!" Thankfully I had everything with me and was able to go right over. Another mercy! So I got to the hospital and was admitted. The midwife on call was not the one who had done my exam at the office and when she examined me she said she couldn't break my water because the baby's head was too high and there would be too big of a risk of the cord coming down first and forcing an emergency c-ection. Dh and mom were there by then and so we decided to start Oxytocin. I was really nervous because I've heard a lot of horror stories about being induced. I was still contracting, but not enough to have the baby. They started it very slowly and upped the dose evey half hour. They started the Oxytocin at 2:30 and by 6:30 I was at 6-7 cm. The midwife still didn't want to break my water ( my babies always stay high until my water is broken) because she didn't ahve the authority to get me a c-section right away if something went wrong. However, the supervising MD on call had no problem breaking it and so at 6:30 he broke my water. Needless to say my amniotic fluid was NOT low. LOL It also was clear which I was really praying about since they were concerned that there might be meconium in it that was causing the non-reactive problem with the NST. I was still receiving Oxytocin, but they cut the dose in half since my contractions were picking up on their own. Elysha heartbeat stayed great through-out. I did end up having back labor again which I was REALLY hoping to avoid. Oh well, I guess that is how my body is built. LOL I went from 8-10 in about 1/2 an hour and Elysha Renee was born at 8:19 p.m. I didn't tear at all and no pain meds!!!! The cord was around her neck once but it wasn't tight and they had no trouble slipping it off. That was the reason for the non-stress test result. She is beautiful and very healthy. No trouble eating or diaper messing so we came home today at about 1:00 p.m. Thank you all for your prayers and had I known I was going to hospital I would have let you all know.:-D Thanks for all your love throughout the pregnancy! Check my avatar for her picture. Sorry it's not bigger, but dial up is not great for pictures. LOL
