savedbygrace 05-11-2009, 08:52 PM I am so laughing at you guys!
Does nobody on here eat squid? LOL
What's the strangest thing you crave or eat?
Eva? Hagus?
ChamomileFriend 05-11-2009, 08:58 PM I have never had squid prepared that way but I do like calamari, so I can't say yuck. Glad you got what you were craving! I was so happy when dh made me the cheese raviolis I'd been jonesing (sp?) for this weekend.
When baby is happy, mommy is happy.
JoyLynn 05-11-2009, 11:44 PM OOh, yeah! Fried calamari with aoli and lemon! heehee! I do love that. I can't really imagine dried squid, and I know I don't like squid and sushi. I guess I'm very picky where it comes to how I like my sea creatures prepared. LOL! [rotfl]
Glad you got your 'fix', girlfriend! And I'm even gladder that it tasted as good as you thought it would. When I had my preggo cravings, oftentimes the actual food didn't taste nearly as wonderful as I dreamed it would be. *sigh* :-D

4HisGlory 05-12-2009, 01:01 AM wow thats...uh....something....I've never ate before[halo]
however, I was SO excited about my dad's homemade beef jerky that when it got here, about a month ago, I didn't care that there were some pieces with mold on it, I just tore it off...minimally, and ate it! I did pray to God that He would protect my unborn child, and my sisters were pretty repulsed that I actually ate it. But hey, Penicillin comes from mold!!!!
Can't say I'm a huge Haggis fan, it's alright but I wouldn't choose to eat it as a meal. It has to be wrapped in batter and fried and dipped in sauce before I'll eat it.
mamallama 05-12-2009, 05:09 PM It was just the way you described it that sounded so...yeah...um...distasteful. But I do love me some fried calamari! [thumbsup]
savedbygrace 05-12-2009, 05:58 PM actually, calmari is different.
think squid jerky! LOL
ashleyhj 05-13-2009, 09:50 AM I, too, like calamari but can't imagine eating something even chewier! I'm pretty adventurous when it comes to food though. So, I'd be willing to try it!
Referring to a previous post, I LOVE sushi. We're planning on going out to a sushi bar for our anniversary in two weeks!!
savedbygrace 05-13-2009, 12:17 PM has anyone tried baby octopus? now those are good!!!
pasloma 05-13-2009, 01:02 PM I like it all! LOL! ... That's why I have so much problem with food!
I just love shellfish... and of course squid, calamari, octopus, whatever!
in Mexico we eat a lot of seafood... it's awesome!
I am glad you had your craving satisfied!
Hugs Esther!
Paloma.

I used to eat Calamari until I was pregnant with the twins, Hub took me to Carabbas and I ordered a big plateful. He was poking fun at me for eating it, picked up a piece and was playing with it... the breading came off a leg and it jiggled and wiggled and looked alive. I literally gagged (yes I knew what calamari was) and haven't been able to eat it SINCE. I still thank him (sarcastically) for taking away one of my all time favorite pregnancy cravings! :P
The other "strangest" thing I've ever had a craving for was Jalepenos and Chocolate Ice Cream... not mixed together, but eaten at the SAME time. There was something about that *hot* and sweet that just tasted oooohhhh soo good. I'm still pretty into eating those two, if I ever get my hands on them. ;)
I have other kinda "not normal" cravings... such as a Subway salad with just their oil and vinegar on it, lots of olives, jalepenos and mushrooms. MMmmm. Other than that... I'd say I didn't really crave "weird" stuff... mostly carby salty stuff... potato chips, stuff like that.
Esther, what else do you get a real hankering for???
savedbygrace 05-13-2009, 07:53 PM well, i'm korean so there are quite a few different things.
I eat a fern that my mom picks from the forests, she would have to do this whole process of drying them out and she would do it on our roof top. People would always ask if we ate snakes.
I love seaweed.
Pickled or furmented cabbage/vegitables *Kimchi*
People always say it is rotten cabbage.
but that's about it. I don't really eat that strange of things. Not like Jalepenos with chocolate icecream! LOL
irishmum2boys 05-14-2009, 02:11 AM ok so I have to ask, is your mom still living in Korea Esther? For some reason I tHought your family was all here in the US? I eat seaweed too, in Ireland there is a seaweed called dulse that people pick and dry out and it is crunchy and salty, I loved it when I was little :)
Interesting thread by the way :)

no, my mom lives in WA. but she stays with a community of koreans. they travel in packs LOL
I love dried roasted seaweed like that. we get white short grain rice and put into the seaweed (it's flat like a sheet of paper) and then you add like cooked spinach or turnip with a little bit of red pepper paste and soy sauce and then roll it up. it looks like a sushi roll but without the sushi!

Uh....lol...that's pretty much what sushi is. Seaweed, rice, whatever else. I love me some sushi! You must be thinking of sashimi. That's raw fish. ;)

no sushi has either raw fish or crab
Koreans eat seaweed roles, they don't really put meat in the middle mostly vegi's and on occasion hot dog. Or we just eat seaweed with just rice. Koreans call it (kimpop)
