WHY is it that I ALWAYS crave red wine when I'm pregnant...
When I'm not pregnant, I do enjoy a glass every once in a while but seriously when I'm pregnant I just want one sooooo badly. It's nuts.
Very frustrating because I'm not entirely sure about what I think about having a small glass rarely while pregnant........

what do you all think?

It is inconclusive as to how much and when it is dangerous, so I see your dilemma. You just have to trust your gut with this one.

But, saying that, I would be ok with a half a glass once in a while. Read: a step above rarely. During the last month I am more generous and say a weekly half glass is ok. Then the last week or so, a couple/three times a day is cool with me.

That's just my personal opinion/conviction on the matter. It has NO medical or otherwise basis whatsoever.

I craved wine with one of my pregnancies too...weird, since I don't like wine. :p

I discovered Mike's for my light/low alcohol content occasional beverage. :)

When I was in germany my friend who was pregnant had her doctor tell her that one beer a week was fine during pg, lol!

I personally had no alcohol when i was pg, but I agree with Tara half a glass probably wouldn't hurt. Half a glass is a minimal amount anyway.

If you really want to steer clear of alcohol, you could try a sparkling juice or something instead... ? or cranberry or grape juice if you just like a "bite". or a virgin cocktail of some kind. just some suggestions

I had a half glass of wine when I was pg with Mak because I was having some contractions at 17 weeks. My friend always took the wine during the breaking of bread because she felt convicted that the Lord commanded her to take the table, so she believed the Lord would bless that. Her kiddo is just fine.
Maybe there is something in wine that your body needs and it knows that it's in wine. Maybe do a look up and see what things are in there that you may need.

I would agree that minimal amounts, even if you took a few sips to stop that craving, would be just fine..

Blessings,

I agree, with the others. A half glass of wine every once in a while isn't going to hurt anything. I might go with a wine mix though that was less alcoholic, but in moderation I don't think it'll be the least bit harmful.

I've always shared the same outlook as above... and I've never been able to find anything Biblical to support the theory that you shouldn't have an odd drink here and there. EXCEPT that Samson's mother was *not* to have wine (or any fermented drink) while pregnant with him. But, I think it was because it was *him*, Samson, and not just any run of the mill dude. I dunno. But, I have to go with my gut and say that I don't believe it's wrong to have a glass of wine, and even to increase as your pregnancy continues. Basically what Tara said. I had a glass or two at the end of my pregnancy with Eliya... being so over due and my body just aching... it was the only thing that made me truly relax. Soooo... ::shrugs:: She's a happy healthy baby... it didn't kill her.

Samson was called to be a life-long Nazirite (from the womb!), which required one to not drink any wine at all. The vow of the Nazirite in the Torah is pretty clear, on the day beginning your vow you shave your head, and then you don't cut your hair after that LOL...

Numbers 6

1 The LORD said to Moses, 2 "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'If a man or woman wants to make a special vow, a vow of separation to the LORD as a Nazirite, 3 he must abstain from wine and other fermented drink and must not drink vinegar made from wine or from other fermented drink. He must not drink grape juice or eat grapes or raisins. 4 As long as he is a Nazirite, he must not eat anything that comes from the grapevine, not even the seeds or skins.

5 " 'During the entire period of his vow of separation no razor may be used on his head. He must be holy until the period of his separation to the LORD is over; he must let the hair of his head grow long. 6 Throughout the period of his separation to the LORD he must not go near a dead body. 7 Even if his own father or mother or brother or sister dies, he must not make himself ceremonially unclean on account of them, because the symbol of his separation to God is on his head. 8 Throughout the period of his separation he is consecrated to the LORD.

the rest of the chapter also deals with Nazirite vow specific laws.

Otherwise the only other time an Israelite under Torah could not drink wine was a priest who was serving in the temple (which is precisely why Jesus said:

Ezekiel 44:21
No priest shall drink wine when he enters the inner court.

Matthew 26:29
But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”

Because He was getting ready to make intercession for us in the Temple (in heaven). So thus fulfilling Torah law that priests serving in the temple can't touch alcoholic wine (if they aren't serving then they can...) It's in the Torah too, I just can't find it for some reason, so the ezekiel verse will have to do for now LOL!

In the beginning I would probably only have sparkling grape juice even though it is not as much fun as wine. I would be a lot more comfortable with a few sips of wine later on in the 3rd tri to ease contractions than in the first or 2nd tri when there is more brain development going on. I do admit that working with kids who have FAS (fetal alcohol syndrome) has probably made me overly-wary, though.

I always crave beer being preggo. My hubby says "go ahead" and there have been times I have had about a half a beer if that. I did crave margaritas early on with this one but of course I wouldn't do that, however I am looking forward to one after pregnancy:mrgreen:

Thanks you all! I did have a glass or two in the third trimester with Liam boy.... and didn't feel bad about it at all. I expect I'll hold out for that again. For a special occasion.... like our anniversary in July.
Or I'll just take a shot glass and sip it all night NOW. haha... just to get the taste. Oh goodness what is it with that?!
