Hi ladies,
Just time for a quick post here - details:
My 19yr old sister who already has one little boy (who turns one next week!!) has gone into labour at 26 weeks. She had pains Friday - started bleeding over the weekend and we took her to the hospital Sunday. They said all looked ok but would keep her in over night to be safe. She started contractions and her cervix opened during last night (Sunday for us in Australia) and they took her to the labour ward while my mum, sister and myself rushed back up to the hospital at 3.30am. She is still having contractions 8 mins apart but so far not progressing. They have given her steroids to prepare baby's lungs in case she does deliver. They gave her morphine to try and stop labour today but at 7pm (current time) it still hasn't worked and she is still at the same stage (contractions but not progressing past that). They now can't give her any more drugs to stop labour as she has had all she can. My mum just rang and said her contractions are getting worse. Basically labour will have to stop naturally.
Doctor has talked to her and told her to be prepared to give birth and walked her through all the different scenarios of how it could play out. Seems they think she will give birth - just hoping to hold off until 3pm tomorrow (21 hours to go) so that the steroids will have worked on baby's lungs. Doc also gently let her know that only 1 in 10 baby's survive at this stage (26 weeks gestation).
So as you can imagine we are all quite worried and alerting prayer chains - my sister and my family aren't Christian either (hubby and I are first on both sides of the family). Please pray for her - her name is Krissy and baby's name will be Payton (girl). It apparently will take a miracle for the labour to stop naturally now and then there is the fight they will have to put up to survive afterwards. God is great and above all things though so He can do anything He wants to including something the doctors think won't happen!!!
Thanks ladies. Will update when I can.
Ali.
