When did your kid stop taking a daily nap? Wes still takes one most days, but somedays, he won't. It seems that if he takes one, he is a in a better mood, but he still ok, if he doesn't. He still sleeps fine at night, either way too.

When they were in school all day (kindergarten or first grade).

It seems that people I know around me are differnt. My one friends daughter, who will be 3 in December, hasn't been taking naps for awhile now. But, my other friend has a little boy who is 3 1/2 and still needs them everyday or he is a terror.

Mine did until they were five yrs old. It got to the point where if I let them sleep in the afternoon they had a hard time going to sleep at night. At the time, they all had to be in bed by seven pm, because that's what time Justin had to go to bed so he could get up at three in the morning. Coudn't have children up and playing til nine or ten.

Shoot...my 9 and 7 yr olds still *need* naps some days LOL

This is why we have mandatory "quiet time" in our house each day.
The 5 yr old still naps..not every day, but still quite frequently. I'd say on average..2 or 3 times a week he actually sleeps during that time. But he stays up too late at night sometimes, messing around with the other boys downstairs. He just can't handle those 'late nights' hehe

All of mine have still napped with regularity at 3. Around 4 they don't *always* sleep, or at least for as long as they once did. We may get 30 minute naps then. Then about the same around age 5. Some days they may nap longer, other days not at all. But I figure as long as we are consistent with quiet time, they'll nap when their bodies tell them they need it.

This really is a place where you need to pay attention to the child. Watch their cues. :) You know him best! But 3-ish is about the time kids start weaning from naps. It's just up to you to determine if you want to encourage or discourage that step ;)

Oh Lord have mercy! I am fighting the same thing! My son is 2.5 years and I'm due with our second son in a month! He has started not taking naps some days and when he doesn't take one, it's miserable by the late afternoon because he's fighting sleep soooo much and crabby! I was wondering when they stopped myself! I NEED him to take a nap as much as he needs one, especially with number two arriving and working at home part time too! [whatsmack]

My daughter stopped taking naps right around her third birthday and nothing, I mean nothing can convince her to take one. :( I really think she still needs to be taking one. But it's hard enough to even just keep her in her room for "quiet time" which I deem manditory around here.

My almost 5 year old still needs naps. If he doesnt get one then he has a night terror everytime. This summer I will definately work on getting him weaned, right before all day kindergarten!

All I mean all of my boys stopped naps by 3. Usually started around 2.5, but always by 3 nap time was done. Though they usually sleep about 12 hours every night for me.

And 12 hours when the naps stopped, my now 1.5 year old takes one nap and still wakes during the night. But once the naps stopped for my boys they always than sleep through the night, crazy crew I have.
