View Full Version : Timing BD for Boys VS. Girls

In one of our other threads I noticed that you gals said that bd after o you have a stronger chance of getting a boy. I *think* I remember reading that on a fertility website... because if you bd before o, then the "male sperm" die off before the "female sperm" and they don't get a chance to reach the egg?? Does that sound right?

Now I understand anything is possible and God's going to give you what HE wants... but, does it really up your chances of having a boy if you time it right? Do any of you have experience with that being true?

This month, if I o at the same cycle day I did last cycle, then we'll be timing db at "just the right time" to try for that boy. ::snort:: It'll be over the weekend. Hhhmmm... I was just curious if any of you could share your experience with me... that's all~ TIA! ;) ::hugs::

I have heard that too, different times and ways for a certain sex. Never did "try" for a certain one or another. We were just as happy for our boys as being blessed with our girl as I know you are just as happy with your girls Jen.

But it is amazing what that other sex, female does to our household. They are sooo different and I love having to give the boys a good dose of female personality. Our girl certainly has sweetened up our boys and I am thankful for a "her" in the mix.

But like you we felt blessed with being blessed with any baby whichever the sex, who am I to question God's will.

If you desire that boy, research and see what comes up but ultimately it is in His hands, which of course is what you said you are just wondering what others think and have tried.

hugs, good luck this month.

My understanding from my days of trying is....
male sperm swim faster but die sooner
female sperm swim slower but live longer

So....if you bd the day before you ovulate, ODDS are that the male sperm will have died off before the egg is released. The female sperm will be the ones still around.

BUT if you O and THEN bd, the male sperm will get there first and fertilize the egg, before the female sperm have a chance to get there. That's the theory.

Yeah, I've read that too. Though I read that the closest you bd to ovulation the better your chances of a boy are. I've never heard that if you bd after ovulation then you will get a boy.

With my first we weren't trying to conceive. We used protection on ovulation day and so when AF was late I still didn't believe I was pg bcuz we had used a condom. Then I learned about how sperm can live in fertile CM for days. We had bd about 4 days before ovulation and I got a girl.

With Micah I was charting, but we weren't necessarily trying for a boy. We were just trying to bd as much as possible before ovulation. We managed to bd the night before I ovulated and I got a boy.

With this one that is baking, we bd 2 days (maybe 3) before I ovulated so that would suggest it will be another girl but we'll see.

Cool! Thanks for sharing, ladies! It's been neat to read your replies! Well we'll see! My cycle day 16 (day of ovulation this PAST cycle) is a Friday, and that's usually our first op to be together since hub works nights and that's his weekend start. ::snort:: Then we'll have Saturday and Sunday since hub took Sunday off for his birthday... so who knows... this may be our month... boy OR girl. ;) I can hope, eh? ::snort::

If you bd the day of O or the day before the chances of having a boy increase. If you want a girl bd three days prior to O.
Male sperm swim faster and die first, girls swim slower and live longer. So If you bd the day of O then the male sperms has a better chance of reaching the egg first.
I can almost say for sure that this is how we conceived Josiah. We bd that afternoon of my O day.

We looked into the 'shettles method' for babies #3 and #4. But it took YEARS to conceive both of those so we certainly weren't exact about it. Timing around O and various positions are recommended. We tried a bit of this and think we followed this pretty closely the month that #3 was conceived. I'm not at all sure about #4 as we had really given up all expectation of conceiving by then. Needless to say I have been blessed with another two beautiful girls. I say have fun trying as I know that you'll happily accept whichever sort of blessing the Lord sends your way.

Well, that's definitely inevitable! ::snort:: I'm not stressing about it or going to work our schedule around anything, but if it *happens* to time that way, then woo hoo! ;) And yes, I would be MORE than happy with EITHER! ;) Thanks for sharing gal!

yep, what esther said....about 3 days prior lends to a girl ... it's on that line ... the last one makes it or they've all died off and no conception

the closer to o you get = boy

here's my proof:
I am really only 'in the mood' when I o .... I have 5 boys
My girl ... I was going to 'try' for a girl and was semi-charting...saw when o was expected and even though I wasn't 'in the mood' as I was the other times..we bd and 3 days later o and no more bd until days after that...meaning..that 3 days prior was the ONLY opportunity for conception ;)

My boy required probably a 24 hour sperm life. We bd'ed on the first day of mucus drying up, and the temp rose a couple of days later. So really close to ovulation, I'm guessing, since we Bd'ed the day after Peak Day of EWCM. My girl was conceived from BD like 5 days before my temp rose, thus requiring a 3-5 day sperm life, most likely. So I say the theory probably has some stock to it.

Enjoy trying! ;)
