View Full Version : Recipes for babies?
Does anyone have any good recipes for a 9 month old? I do have a recipe book but we've pretty much made everything in there and there are some things she doesn't like and some that she really loves. But I need a bit more variety, KWIM? I haven't made the fish dishes that are in the book for the simple reason that I'm not very confident in making fish. I don't like fish myself so I've never cooked it. I'm just a bit scared that I won't remove all of the bones or I won't cook it properly. Anyway, if you have any good chicken recipes (she loves chicken) or pasta recipes, I would love to try them. Or anything else will do as well. Thanks a bunch.
*Hint hint*- Tara you've probably got a few recipes up your sleeve
~Tara~ 11-08-2006, 04:29 PM Well...LOL...I've never had a 9 month old eat more than a few nibbles of whatever we are having.
My current 9 month old doesn't eat a thing. He's had a taste of potatoes, he wasn't impressed. A taste of hot cereal, again, unimpressed.
And, well, mommy brain strikes and I can't very well remember my others. Other than my eldest with which everything was different LOL
Hmm
Let's see...I'm thinking just plain noodles, peas, green beans, carrots (cooked/diced)..finger foods.
Oh and sweet potatoes, pumpkin, just boiled and mashed.
You mentioned chicken...um, chicken n dumplins/noodles
Rice.
Sorry, no real baby recipes. But HTH a bit.
Crissyanna 11-08-2006, 04:41 PM I saw the title of this thread, and well, I thought you either wanted recipes to make a baby, or how to cook one  .
I can't help you out. Just that when I worked at the day care, we fed the table eaters in the I/T room whatever the cook made. Just cut up smaller or without sauces.
I think I need a nap. My brain is totally shot or fried or something.....Maybe I need to be committed?

[rofl] I was eating when I read that and I nearly choked on my food...lol! Thanks for your help ladies.
Crissyanna 11-08-2006, 07:34 PM I didn't mean to nearly kill you!!!!! Forgive me?
Cheeseburger 11-08-2006, 08:41 PM Hey I heard you can make butter out of the fat from your breastmilk for your infant if you are not ready to introduce dairy, but want to give a small piece of toast or spread some on a cracker.
Is that true??
If it's true how can you make it??
love2bmom 11-08-2006, 10:10 PM I have really enjoyed the Super Baby Food Book.. it has many great recipes. It also tells you when to introduce certain foods & which ones to wait for. I have found that my DD really enjoys anything I give her. I am very cautious to avoid any foods high in acid, or with possibilities of allergy. The earlier you introduce foods to infants, the more likely they are to form allergies.
Pumpkin is a good food right now.. fresh that is. I mash up green beans, squash, mango, pears, and whatever is fresh. Super Baby Food book is GREAT!!
Cheeseburger 11-08-2006, 10:13 PM Super baby food book...
do you have the authors name? or a link to amazon with more info on the book? thanks

You will truly love this book... I still use it even for my toddler.. !!
Thanks Nici. I will go to that link. I have a book called "Feeding your baby and toddler" by Annabel Karmel. alot of the recipes are really good in there. I just want to try a few more recipes so I will go to that site and see what I find.
Crystal, yes I forgive you  heehee.
~Tara~ 11-09-2006, 09:24 AM I've not heard of making butter with breastmilk, but I imagine it can be quite easy to do...
Put some in a baby food jar (or the like) and just shake shake shake shake and shake some more.
You can make regular butter that way using whipping cream. (I have *yet* to do this grr it's on my list of 'want to dos' it's just never happened, anywho, have heard of several who have done it with GREAT success!) So, I would assume you'd do the same for your breastmilk version. Interesting LOL You have me all curious.
myjoyoverflows 11-09-2006, 02:46 PM I've made butter out of whipping cream...and it's the best stuff that I've ever had!!! Now I want to see if I can do that...*is very curious* if anyone else has made butter from breastmilk...lemme know...'cause I wanna try! :D
my friend made ice cream from breastmilk, in one of those ball ice cream makers, turned out looking fine. I didn't try any, but she made it for her ds bday - he has a milk allergy.......
justmeNmine 11-16-2006, 11:50 AM I basically feed my ten-month old amodified version of whatever I'm cooking ofr me and my son... Two favorites are: Stuffed pepper stuffing (but I mix it with plain white rice to cut the acidity of the tomatoes), Chicken and feta bowtie (just cut it up real small). I often heat up canned chicken breast as it shreds easily and mix it with well-cooked veggies, like peas and carrots, etc. She also loves to have a fried egg with chees, cut into very small squares and whole wheat waffles cut very small. Since about 6 months, she hasn't like to be spoon-fed, so I give her mostly soft finger foods. For snacks, any small diced fruit, cooked veggies, dry cereal, crackers, etc. I have rarely used baby food, actually as it is so expensive...
Eva
I just fed mine a bunch of mashed vegetables until they were old enough for more LOL. Sweet potato was always a winner.
Do you really think she needs a lot of variety? Babies don't have much taste thats all. I found mine would eat the same thing time after time.
I agree with finger foods etc.

Em, well I used to make this minced meat with swede and tomato which she loved but then she grew tired of it (atleast I thought), bcuz she started refusing to eat it. I just tried her with Cheesy macaroni with carrots and tomato and she really liked it. And for some reason Abby doesn't like sweet potato. I have tried it several times and nope she just refused it. I've tried mixing it with Broccoli and carrots and still refused it. So I ate it  heehee. Thanks for your replies.
I wish I had arecipe to share. I'm looking for new ideas myself. Gonna check out the super baby book. DS starting to get a little picki overhere. All he wants to eat is chicken. Have you seen that McDonald's commercial were the guy is eating nothing but chicken sandwiches and he starts turning into a chicken. Thats gonna be my boy.
Nati, here is a good website for recipes for baby food.

I have her book and its fab!
Cristina 11-17-2006, 07:07 PM By 9 or 10 months ds was pretty much eating whatever we ate; he was never fond of baby food. His all-time favorite that still I make him for lunch now and then is sweet potato fries! Just cut half of a raw sweet potato into whatever size you think will be okay for dc to handle (I usually made them into steak fry size), take a ziplock bag and fill it with a teaspoon of olive oil and some cinnamon, add the wedges and toss to coat with oil and cinnamon. Bake them in a 375 degree oven until they are just golden brown and soft on the inside. Yum! He also loved quesadillas, which I made with whole wheat tortilla, filled with either cheddar or queso and diced tomatoes.
