Make An Impact With Your Business This Christmas

By Jill Hart

The holidays are just around the corner and foremost on nearly every mind is Christmas. Businesses want to know how to make increased sales this time of year and customers want to know where to find a good deal. As Christian business owners, how can we do business differently than everyone else? How can we be a part of making an impact for Christ through our businesses? Here are a few ideas:

Have An Open House
It's amazing how few of us know our neighbors these days. Having an open house for your business is an easy way to reach out to those in your neighborhood. Have some samples or freebies available, and keep things low-pressure to create an environment where you can chat with your new friends and get to know them.

A bonus to having an open house is having Christmas items displayed in your home that represent your beliefs. This could even spark conversations about faith that might not happen otherwise.

Give To The Hurting
It's always important to use out businesses as tools to care for the poor and hurting around us. Winter and the Christmas season are especially hard times for those who are hurting and we can make a deep impact by giving of our resources during these months. There are many ways to give through your business:

Sponsor A Child
There are several organizations that serve needy children around the world. At CWAHM, we sponsor a child through Compassion International and portion of every month's profits go towards this. I've found this to be an important way to use my business to make a difference in another families life.

Sponsoring a child can be done as a team activity (if you're in Direct Sales) or even as a fundraiser using profits or donations from your customers to help fund the project.

Remember - Its Not About You
It's easy to get caught up in the belief that these are our businesses and that the profits that come from them are ours. However, we must keep at the forefront of our minds that our businesses are gifts from God. Yes, they are used by Him to help provide for us, but we are to use these resources to help others, too.

When we hoard the resources that He blesses us with - whether it be out of fear of not having enough or simply out of greed - we lose out on the intangible blessings that come along with helping others.

Jesus challenges us to give out of what has been entrusted to us. (Luke 14:12 - 14) What can you give this Christmas season through you business to show how thankful you are for all God has blessed you with? What a joy to serve our God in this way, especially to celebrate His birth here on Earth by caring for others.
