What's For Dinner?

By Lisa Barker

What mom hasn't been plagued by her children when it gets to be "that time of day"?

What's for dinner? Is it dinner time? How LONG until we eat? WHAT are we eating--we're eating THAT!?

And that barrage of questions is always followed by: Can I have something to eat now????

--No, you'll spoil your dinner.

Kids: SIGH!

(Poor kids...not!)

I bought salmon for dinner tonight. It was a good buy. My son (the seven year-old) asks AT THE STORE: What are we having for dinner?

--Salmon.

WHEN I PUT IT IN THE CART: What's that?

--Salmon.

WHEN I PAY FOR IT AT THE CHECK-OUT: Is that fish?

--Yes, it's salmon.

ON THE WAY HOME: Mom, what's for dinner?

--Salmon.

WHILE IT'S ON THE COUNTER AND I'M PREPARING IT: What are we having again?

--Salmon.

WHEN I SET IT ON THE TABLE: Is this squid?

--SIGH!

Everybody: IT'S SALMON!

He pauses, then: Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Don'tcha love it?
