Toddler and Twins On The Way

February, 2007

By Cheryl Lage

QUESTION:
With a toddler and twins on the way, do you know of a good triple stroller, or a location where I might find one/have some selection?

ANSWER:
Hope you are feeling good and hanging in there!

As far as triple strollers go, my guess is that you will indeed be best served to peruse online resources. I know our BabiesRUs/Baby Depot, etc) had limited double strollers on the floor, and thereby I think it is unfortunately safe to assume the idea of "test driving" any quantity of triple strollers prior to purchase is unlikely. (And man, do I ever try to advocate test-driving strollers whenever possible...such a subjective decision. I adored our DuoGlider and used it till our two were four....other twin moms have hated the same stroller and abandoned it as soon as the kids outgrew the infant carriers.)

HOWEVER, the good news is, most of the online vendors who sell triple strollers have VERY open "help lines" and should be able to answer your specific questions by phone prior to committing to a purchase. In your shoes, I'd so a real thorough exploration of strollers online (*and I'll list some web-vendors for you to check out below!), select 3-4 stroller models that seem to be closest to your dream scenario, and then have your series of questions ready to ask!

Questions like:

How wide is it? (For use outside of neighborhood strolling/jogging, I'd say get an in-line, three kids in a row, model. Side by side seating may seem "nicest", but it is not very door/aisle maneuverable even with two...imagine three!) Can two infant carriers be snapped in? (and if the brand is not the same brand as your carseats/carriers, make sure the stroller is returnable, or that the stroller manufacturer makes compatible carseats/carriers) What are the measurements of the stroller when collapsed? (and measure your space in the vehicle you plan to keep it in!) How much does it weigh?

You get the idea! Any factors that may be of importance to you that aren't immediately clarified on the vendor's site should be asked! (Including do you have a return policy!)

There are review sites (ePinions, etc.) that review strollers, but in truth, it's comparable in my eyes to trying to review a car...

what aspects some love in a particular model are the same qualities that make another individual hate it!

Here are some web stroller vendors.....have fun looking, and let me know what you end up selecting, and how you like it once you're out and about with it!
