Double Bubble Dilemmas

QUESTION:
Hi Cheryl-
This may seem a weird question. We have three-year old girl/boy
twins. My husband and I typically bathe them in the tub at the same
time, and they have the best time.
Is this inappropriate since they are girl/boy?
Thanks-

ANSWER:
Hey CTW-
If it is any reassurance, we still bathe our boy/girl twins
together (they're 4...actually 49 months to be exact) and have
absolutely no plans to embark on separate suds-ing any time soon.
Our daughter Sarah will occasionally give our son Darren's peenie a tug, or ask if she can touch it (we have talked about you don't just touch without asking). He will pat her booty frequently when we're all changing into PJs.
I'm chalking it all up to curiosity about differences. Truthfully, I sense there is NOTHING even remotely sexual about it. I think as parents in the 21st century we are so (justifiably) attuned to things sexual coming into premature contact with our children that we are apprehensive about even the most innocent of interactions.
I certainly had the concerns you are having one day when Darren asked Sarah, "Do you want to touch my peenie?" . I was stunned into brief silence while Sarah laughed and tapped it then they both burst into peals of laughter and proceeded to play with their Teletubbie toys.
Don't think we (or you) have any Hotel New Hampshire situation to confront at this point!
Do what you feel most comfortable with though, and if you sense some inequity or discomfort on the part of either twin, I'd certainly consider stopping the double baby bath.
In the meantime, enjoy!
Best-
Cheryl
